I have so many fond memories of Kenny, that I’m not sure which one to share or how to convey the loss I feel. Ken and I began on the same day at CM-Life as freshman. We both showed up with our cameras in hand and our love for sports.
It only took a day to figure out that I should hang up the camera and focus on writing. Ken’s talent was so obvious. But more obvious was his love of people, his kind and sharing nature and his willingness to give. Over the next several years we went on the road to cover CMU sports, had each other’s back as deadlines loomed. We found ourselves in cold and wet deer blinds at 4 am for a story, and living in a rat infested house in Muskegon for an internship.
Every year, without exception, I would receive a Christmas card from Ken and would look forward to catching up. Last year at CMU’s Journalism Award Ceremony we saw each other for the first time in years, yet it was like it had only been a day. When I walked into the room that night, it was like I was walking into the basement of Ansbach Hall in 1981 all over again.
I’ll miss you, Kenny.
